COVID-19 Update - March 2021

Your safety and well-being is of the utmost importance to us at BMW Rider Training. Rest assured, we are closely monitoring the situation with COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and taking precautionary measures in line with the UK Government advice to make sure our students and staff are safe.

Easing of National Lockdown Measures from 29th March

As we are sure you are aware, the UK Government has announced a 4-stage plan for the lifting of the current national lockdown restrictions, the first change is the current 'Stay-at-Home' directive ending on 29th March

Our Training Centres across the country will remain closed to drop-in visitors for safety in the immediate short term. Visitors will be only by appointment during this time, please contact us to arrange this.

Our Customer Service teams will continue to work remotely - we remain fully contactable by telephone on 08000 131 282, via our message box here, or by email at BMW@WorldofBMW.com, (Mon-Fri, 09:00 to 17:30)

When will training resume?

The motorcycle training industry is governed by the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) who conducts all tests. As per the announcement by the UK Government, they hope to implement ‘stage two’ from Monday 12th April, and all vehicle testing (theory and practical) is scheduled to resume from this date. Please be aware that this date is not set in stone and is subject to review by the UK Government over the coming weeks.

We appreciate that many riders will travel some distance to our specialist training centres, and while self-contained accommodation will be available from April 12th, we understand this may not be suitable for everyone. Traditional hotels and B&B providers are planned to reopen from ‘stage three’, approximately 17th May, and we’ve already opened bookings for these dates.

Can I book a training course?

Bookings are now open for our spring and summer course dates! Our booking system will display real-time availability for upcoming courses - you can see this using the options in the main menu above.

Once you are viewing your chosen course, simply select your preferred centre and the drop-down calendar below will display available dates in green

I can't see my preferred date, why is this?

While tests are set to resume from 12th April, the DVSA has confirmed that test quantities will not be going back to full capacity straight away. This is in order to protect all riders and ensure strict social distancing is maintained during this transition period, but it does mean that the earliest dates may book up very quickly while capacity is restricted.

Rest assured, this is simply a cautious measure and we understand that test numbers will gradually increase over the following weeks, on the basis that reopening test centres do not cause an increase in Covid-19 cases.

Do I need to do anything extra before booking?

Please ensure you have your Motorcycle Theory Test certificate to hand when booking, as we need this to confirm your course.

If you have yet to take this test, we would strongly recommend making this your first priority. Unfortunately, due to the impact of Covid-19, there is currently an extremely long wait time at all centres across the UK, and sadly, you're unable to proceed with practical testing until this is done.

If you're making a future booking but have a Theory Test booked between today and the start of your course, please provide us with your test date when booking so we can notify the DVSA when we reserve your test spaces.

If you have an open booking but have not yet heard from us, please do be sure to check your junk/spam folder. Of course, if you still don't have a notification, please get in touch here - we'd love to hear from you.

We appreciate your patience during this difficult and frustrating time, but we look forward to riding with you again very soon!

Kind regards,

Ian & the BMW Rider Training team
