What is the course schedule like?

The course is set over 4 consecutive days to maximise your learning time.

While start times vary slightly between each of our training centre locations*, you can expect course days to start around 8:30am, and finish between 3:30-4:00pm.
*Confirmed times for your chosen location will be sent to you as part of your confirmation email once booked.

There is a break for lunch, as well as short rest breaks interspersed throughout the day.

The daily schedule is not fixed as we continually adjust this to meet the needs of each student, however the following gives an indication of what to expect from each day.

  • Day 1 - We'll begin with a full assessment of your riding skills, including slow control and manual handling skills on our private training area before heading out onto the road.
We'll be using a suitable model for you that meets the A-capacity requirement for DVSA testing, such as the BMW F 800 GS or similar.
  • Day 2 - Focus on slow riding skills, preparing for the Module 1 test, including practice time on the DVSA test site where possible.
  • Day 3 - Final practice & Module 1 test. Following this, we'll focus on strategic improvements to your on-road riding skills, centering on safe riding practice (observations, road position, junction management etc.)
  • Day 4 - Final practice, followed by the Module 2 test. If your tests finish early enough, we'll happily use the time for a possible enhancement session on a larger bike afterwards.

(Please note: dependent on DVSA test allocation, your Module 1 test may be scheduled anywhere between the afternoon of day 2, anytime during day 3, or even up to the morning of your final day. Your Module 2 test will always be scheduled as late as possible on the final day of your course.)

Who will I train with?

Unlike many other training schools, you will never be more than 2 students to an instructor at any time. All customers are attended to as individuals throughout the training, to make sure you're getting the most out of each session.

What is the training style like?

At BMW Rider Training, our progressive 'layering' approach to training will help you make incredible progress throughout the learning process, quicker than you might realise.

This 4-day course in particular is intense and fast-paced, as we're working with you to correct any poor riding habits, adjust to the larger capacity motorcycle safely and bring your skills up to the standard required to pass the DVSA tests, in a very short space of time. It is a tough, mentally and physically exhausting experience but it is our objective to make the learning process a fun one!

To have the best opportunity of achieving a first-time pass, we recommend that students should have a good level of riding confidence and a substantial volume of riding hours logged in recent months on a manual A2-capacity bike, prior to attending.

If you are a less confident student, or would prefer a more relaxed training format, we'd strongly recommend opting for our 5-day course option instead, which you can see here.
