Communication is Key: New Comms Systems for 2024 at BMW Rider Training

At BMW Rider Training, we're always looking to take advantage of new innovations to ensure our students get the best possible experience, and in-helmet communications are no exception to that.

Whether we're giving vital instructions or just reassurance, reliable real-time communication between our instructors and students is a vital element of our training courses.

As part of this commitment to improvement, we've partnered with Cardo Systems for 2024. Chief Instructor, Ian Biederman explains:

“We’ve come a long way since using Private Mobile Radios (PMR) units, which worked well, but were heavy and bulky, needing mounting and cable routing. For learner customers, it is a legal obligation that radio units are used and so we need a reliable and stable platform to achieve this. Moving to Bluetooth was quite a step – and then mesh connectivity even more so.

The range of the units is fantastic, the pairing process smooth and the units themselves are lightweight and slim so our customers forget they’re there. The clarity of the transmission is a definite bonus and we get this from the Cardo units over and above any other Bluetooth intercom we've tested. It’s been a revelation.”

All helmets supplied for training at our Royston Training Centre are now fitted with Cardo Bluetooth units, with a roll-out to all BMW Rider Training centres over the course of 2024.
